Putin in uniform, a sign that there will be no peace? Russia claims Zelensky’s proposals are “mafia extortion.”

“Our people have already set off for Moscow,” said Donald Trump, who is currently in Ireland, on Wednesday. The U.S. President believes that talks with Russia about a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine may lead to a positive outcome. Commenting on these U.S. efforts, Volodymyr Zelensky noted that he expects the United States to take decisive action against Putin if the Kremlin refuses.

Putin in uniform in the Kursk region

The President of Ukraine hopes that the U.S. will impose sanctions on the Kremlin and strengthen Ukraine militarily if Moscow does not agree to a temporary ceasefire. Reports from Russia suggest that Putin and his circle are not inclined to do so. Russian bloggers observed that the dictator appeared yesterday in the war zone in the Kursk region wearing a military uniform. In their view, this is a disguised response to what they referred to as the mocking peace proposal from Ukraine and the U.S.

Moscow announces the continuation of its counteroffensive not only in the Kursk region in Russia but also plans to create a security buffer in the Sumy region of Ukraine. The Kremlin also seeks to overthrow the government in Kyiv and reduce the size of the Ukrainian army. Journalists from The Washington Post obtained a document drafted in February, in which a Russian think tank close to the FSB writes that Moscow “should work to weaken the U.S. negotiating position regarding Ukraine” and also mentions the necessity of the “complete dismantling” of the current Ukrainian government.

Moscow’s peace proposals consulted with the FSB

“The document rejects former U.S. President Donald Trump’s previous plans to reach a peace agreement within 100 days as ‘unfeasible’ and states that ‘a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Ukraine cannot occur before 2026.’ The Kremlin dismisses any possibility of sending peacekeeping forces from Europe to Kyiv and insists on international recognition of the Ukrainian territories it has occupied as its own.

In contrast, Russian media are calling Volodymyr Zelensky’s proposals ‘mafia extortion disguised as diplomacy.’ The Kremlin believes that a 30-day ceasefire would only give Ukraine time to rearm and continue the war.

The U.S. has not directly threatened Russia with additional sanctions if Moscow refuses to agree to a ceasefire. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Vladimir Putin must first review the outcomes from Saudi Arabia before making any decisions.”

How does the ideology of modern Russia differ from the Soviet one?

If Soviet ideology was monolithic, the current ideology of the Russian authorities appears loose, combining seemingly incompatible elements – for example, the cultivation of the Soviet past alongside the idealization of Tsarist Russia. Nevertheless, Russian propaganda has shown significant success, attracting a wide range of political forces, sometimes even those hostiles to each other.
