Russian Hackers Attacked Ukrainian Data in Poland [FULL LIST OF ATTACKED INSTITUTIONS]

Russian Hackers Conduct the Largest Cyberattack in the Modern History of the War in Ukraine, Including on the Servers of the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice

Russian hackers carried out the largest cyberattack in the modern history of the war in Ukraine, targeting, among others, the servers of the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice. It turns out that in the operation conducted a few days ago, one of the most protected registries was destroyed, specifically data from civil registry offices. Hackers claim they also destroyed data on servers in Poland.

Russian Hackers Destroyed Data

The Ukrainian government assures that most of the information stolen by the Russians was already publicly available, and the data they destroyed can be recovered from backups.

A significant problem concerns information from the State Civil Registry. This is one of the most protected registries, where not highly secret data are stored, such as records of births, deaths, or marriages, but it also contains legally protected data related to adoption secrets.

Malicious Hackers Have Not Attacked for the First Time

The attack conducted a few days ago differed from typical hacking exploits because the Russians’ goal was not only data theft but possibly primarily their destruction. The attack temporarily paralyzed many state institutions. Hackers from the XakNet Team group, who boasted about the attack, claim they stole and deleted over 1 billion data rows, including those stored on servers in Poland.

This time, hackers targeted, among others, databases of civil registry acts, registers of legal entities and individual entrepreneurs, as well as the register of property rights and their encumbrances. Restoring this data may take several more weeks.

This is not the first destructive attack of its kind. A few months ago, Russian hackers attempted to paralyze Ukraine’s banking system in a similar manner.

According to Olga Stefanyshyn, the Minister of Justice of Ukraine, the cyberattack led to the temporary suspension of the Unified Register and the State Register, which are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine. It was determined that the attack was organized by Russian hackers, and its goal was to disrupt the functioning of key state services.

How does the Ideology of modern Russia differ from that of the Soviet Union?

If Soviet ideology was monolithic, the current ideology of the Russian authorities appears loose, combining seemingly incompatible elements – for example, the cultivation of the Soviet past alongside the idealization of Tsarist Russia. Nevertheless, Russian propaganda has shown significant success, attracting a wide range of political forces, sometimes even those hostiles to each other. This demonstrates that modern Russian ideology functions differently from the Soviet one
